Dr. Sara Carpenter (she/her) provides individual therapy to children and adolescents. With over a decade of expertise working as a school counselor, she has a broad range of experience in helping children ages 11-18 heal from emotional and behavioral difficulties. She specializes in responding to a variety of presenting concerns in youth including anxiety, depression, coping with loss, self esteem, social skills, anger management, suicidal ideation, relationship issues, identity issues, and divorce.
In addition to offering therapy services at Upaya, Sara is a middle school counselor in the St. Louis area. After completing her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision, she began working fulltime as a counselor educator. Most recently, she served as the Director of Training overseeing the graduate counselor education program at the University of Texas at Austin. In 2021, Sara became a nationally-certified Registered Play Therapist through the Association for Play Therapy.
Sara and her husband live in St. Louis. On the weekends, she enjoys using every meal as an excuse to eat tacos in all varieties, expanding her cacti collection, and chasing after her two unruly Aussies, Bear and Sky, at the dog park.
