At Upaya Counseling, we prioritize the use of EBPs (Evidence-Based Practice) which means that clinical research studies have shown treatment efficacy (that they “work”). Clinicians, of course, use other valuable ways of interacting with clients, they just have not necessarily been scientifically tested. The practices that have been passed through rigorous testing processes and proven with clinical evidence have come to be known as “evidence-based.” Each of these models promotes using an over-arching scientific approach clients. Upaya therapists help their clients identify problems, set goals, implement solutions, observe the results, and make adjustments as needed. They will work with you to determine which EBP, or combination of, is recommended for you.
Evidence-based therapy approaches are constantly expanding with adjustments and new methods because as more research is done, we learn more about what works best for clients. At Upaya, we progressively build upon our skills in EBPs by attending formal trainings, doing self-study, and engaging in group consultation and supervision to hold each other to these high standards of treatment.
Our current list of EBPs used at Upaya:
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD
Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
